Lindi Tanzania – no campsite in Mtwara
After a short breakfast at the lodge, we continued direction Mtwara. The beaches were marvelous but we could not find a proper accommodation. There was no campsite, but several guest houses. I had a look in one and what I saw was terrible. It was a dark room, no windows, no light, about 2×3 meters, no private bath, the bath for all rooms had bucket shower, and the room could not be locked, parking was not secured by a watchman. So we decided to go north to Lindi, there we found Oceanic Beach view Resort.
At the entrance we asked and they let us camp for a reasonable amount. But the complete Hotel seemed to be abandoned. There was no electricity, only for special occasions they turned on a generator for a very short time, because they had no money for fuel. There was hardly any water, we had to get it from a tank. But the guard was a friendly guy and got us two beers from the village, because they had no drinks at the Hotel. Tired we fell into bed in our tent.
In the morning we went to the ATM in Lindi and got to our surprise 1 kg beef filet for about 6 US$. We took photos at the beach and saw all the abandoned buildings, which was a proof that Lindi had seen better times. Lindi is a typical small African Town, with a lot of small shops where you get everything and nothing. So we left for Kilwa. The road was nice tar at the beginning, but then there was a detour of about 60 km because of construction work, and this gravel road was really awful and it took us three hours for this 60 km. We found a nice campsite at Kilwa Beach view resort. Good shade and bathrooms were ok. The manager was a British guy and at the bar we had good conversations with him.
