Island Safari Lodge – Maun

Island Safari Lodge – Maun (04.12.2011 – 05.01.2012)

Around noon we moved to Island Safari Lodge. A very beautiful campsite directly at the river, with shadow, electricity and free wifi. And we got 20% Reduction for staying longer.

One day a German couple arrived with their IVECO 4×4. Ute and Oliver took half a year off to travel (see this blog post) Southern Africa. We had a lot of fun with them, did the cooking together and drinking as well.

About two weeks before Xmas Heidi and Guido (the ones we started with in 2009) arrived with their also IVECO. We know them well, because we started with them our crossing of Africa until we got our fuel problems in Tunisia. They had finished the trip with Seabridge, bought the Iveco in Germany, shiped it to South Africa and started a tour on their own. They came 800 km from Windhoek to meet us. We like them very much and regret that a trip with them together could not happen, because we were not ready to start a new trip. We spent Xmas with them (Our third Xmas in Africa) and had a wonderful dinner with good wine. They were planning a world trip again with Seabridge with start at the end of 2012. We agreed we want to meet each other again in South America, somewhere. After Xmas they left for Namibia.

New years eve we spent in the lodge. We got acquainted with Astrid Daerr from Munich, author of German language travel guides. With them and a couple from Australia we slipped into 2012.
